MediaTek prepares 5G modem for affordable smartphone

The 5G mobile internet network has started to be heard, with technology development plans by a number of vendors. MediaTek as a leading mobile phone chipset manufacturer is also preparing a modem for affordable smartphones.

MediaTek as we know often become the mainstay of smartphone manufacturers for the middle to lower class device. MediaTek-made processors are rarely found in flagship smartphones.

Most indeed MediaTek chipsets made more for devices with affordable prices. To further enliven the modem market in the middle class, at Computex 2018 event yesterday this Taiwanese chipset company officially introduced its newest modem, the Helio M70.

This modem will be the first 5G MediaTek modem. This modem is set up for cheap devices that want to experience the 5G experience.

At Computex 2018 yesterday, MediaTek President Joe Chen confirmed Helio M70 will be available in 2019. In its development, MediaTek teamed up with network provider vendors, such as Nokia, Huawei, and NTT DoCoMo.

The offered speed is claimed to promise 5 Gbps. Unfortunately, MediaTek does not share information about the technical specifications of the modem. So, for the moment there is no information that can be disseminated more deeply.
